The Big Jubilee Lunch; a Royal day out for everyone

The Big Lunch is a national event which has taken place for the past four years. This year, it is due to be held during the Diamond Jubilee Celebrations for the Queen, and so all over the country, towns are organising their very own Big Jubilee Lunch.

Buckingham Palace announced that this special lunch will be included as part of the official programme of events for the four day celebratory event in June of this year. Because the Diamond Jubilee is being held over such a long weekend, there’s plenty of time for people to get everything organised and enjoy a leisurely lunch on Sunday the 3rd of June, with the rest of the town.

For the Silver Jubilee, which was held in the year 1977, more than 10 million people celebrated and this year looks as if it will be just as popular. The Big Lunch is a well loved event every other year, with millions taking part all over the UK and so it is predicted that the Big Jubilee Lunch will be a roaring success. Organised by the Eden project, its main aim is to create a sense of community and fun; and what better time to do this than during one of the biggest events of the decade? The process of planning for the Jubilee Lunch will, in itself, help to bring communities all over the UK closer together.

The Big Jubilee Lunch differs from town to town, as each community makes their own decision regarding the venue, the decor and the entertainment. A theme is almost always picked and of course this year it will inevitably be decidedly Royal in nature! The main ‘ingredients’ for the Big Jubilee Lunch, much like every other year, are the food and the people attending the event.

Many towns organise charity events and music concerts to raise money for the Big Lunch and this year, in honour of the Diamond Jubilee, the town of Warrington will receive a grant of £10,000, given by the Duke of Westminster’s foundation, in order to fun the Big Jubilee Lunch in the town. This will enable the community to organise the lunch itself, as well as some street parties, which are being permitted as part of the Jubilee celebrations.

If you and your neighbours are organising a Big Jubilee Lunch, don’t forget to keep the them suitably Royal, with some Diamond Jubilee Parish Council Mugs!
