Do you think-ink?

Since Cheryl Cole is starting divorce proceedings, she’s decided that getting rid of her ‘Mrs C’ tattoo on her neck isn’t a bad idea either.

She has asked her management to clear a few more days to have the inking on the back of her back removed. If I were her, I’d get that tattoo of her hand and thigh removed too, but what do I know?

Cheryl wants it to be done in secret – unlike when Jordan had her “Pete” wrist tattoo inked over with a big black cross, which was all caught on camera for her reality TV series. If you just do the exact opposite of whatever Jordan does you can’t go too far wrong, whatever the situation. A friend of Cheryl’s told the Daily Mirror; “She wants it done discreetly and with class. She’s not one for big crass statements.” Not one for big crass statements - really?

Are you looking for some branding, but worried you’ll regret it? You want to go to a quality promotional product distributer, who can advise you on what sort of artwork will work best for you. Gift Selection is one quality distributer who will stop you from ‘Doing a Cheryl’, and make sure you get your branding exactly right.

Whether you’re looking for your corporate message to be; printed, engraved, embossed, stitched or molded, Gift Selection will get it right for you first time.

Tonight is the night the Brit Awards rolls into London’s Earls Court with; Lady Gaga, Lily Allen, Florence and the Machine, Pixie Lott and JLS all in the running for a possible hat-trick of awards.

As the UK’s biggest music award night, viewers will be treated to performances from Lady Gaga, Kasabian, Cheryl Cole, Jay-Z and Alicia Keys, while Prince Harry has recorded a message for the live show, as the ceremony celebrates its 30th anniversary.

The somewhat unlikely host, Peter Kay, is the latest host of the famous awards which began back in 1977. Two special categories have been created to celebrate the best of the Brits over the past 30 years - the best Brits performance and the best album since the ceremony began.

If your organisation fancies an award ceremony of its own, you don’t necessarily have to dress up as Peter Kay, but you do need some quality personalised awards. One quality engraved award supplier is Gift Selection, who have supplied top end engraved awards to all sorts of organisations.

A quality award will make your order staff really feel appreciated, where as one that looks knocked together my result in a mass walk out. Gift Selection can engrave all sorts of popular award styles, such as globes, shards, prisms and stars – but unfortunately no Brit Awards.

Bling Bling

Did you see the Golden Globe Awards the other night? It was the 67th year, but the first that the star-studded ceremony had seen a host for 15 years.

An unlikely choice of host was Briton’s own Ricky Gervais, who had the nerve racking honour of keeping banter levels high. His targets included Sir Paul McCartney, Angelina Jolie, Steve Carrell, TV network NBC and the Hollywood smart set in general.

My favourite line of the night was: “Looking at all the faces here makes me remember all the great work that’s been done this year by cosmetic surgeons,” he joked.

He went down a lot easier then fellow Brit, Russell Brand, who the American public did not warm to, after his attempt at hosting the MTV Music Awards. The Associated Press called Gervais “cheeky, silly and funny as heck” for his gentle jabs at the Hollywood A List.

If your organisation is handing out awards of its own, then going to a quality supplier like Gift Selection will ensure you can find exactly what you’re looking for. Personalised awards can look really impressive, if done in the right way, while a great choice of styles and materials are available.

If for example your business had links with the travel and tourism industry, handing out crystal globe awards would send out a real smart corporate image. Maybe you don’t have the same budget as the Golden Globes, but Gift Selection can still accommodate those on a lesser budget too.

Rather than a large crystal award, a smartly engraved crystal tumbler or even a paperweight would do the job nicely also. Remember, if you have any questions at all about engraved crystal, contact the friendly team over at Gift Selection.

You would be forgiven for associating London’s Leicester Square with all the glamour of the film industry. However yesterday saw the prestigious spot filled with computer game fans for the premier of much anticipated and catchy titled Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.

The hardcore (some might say sad), gamers were treated to a fanfare of martial music and Jeeps. While US Marine look-a-likes took the invited audience down a camouflage carpet into the Vue cinema, while the crowds leaned over the barriers.

For those who don’t know, Modern Warfare 2 is set five years after the conclusion of Call of Duty 4. Despite the efforts of the Marines and the SAS, those pesky Ultranationalists seize control of Russia and start a reign of terror across Europe!

If you looked really hard you may have seen the promotional umbrellas that were there too. The organisers rightly decided that branded AK-47s wouldn’t be very tasteful, and decided having some promotional umbrellas made would make for a smart marketing tool.

If your organisation is in the market for branded umbrellas, then contact Umbrella Store, as they did a fine job of supplying the promotional umbrellas for the Call of Duty event. For that particular client, a branded Bedford umbrella was chosen, but all different models of branded umbrellas are available.

Printed promotional umbrellas make a great corporate gift, as they are both practical and stylish. They can work for any organisation – even for a computer game!

When it comes to the art of self promotion – nothing can surely topple Big Brother housemates.

The tenth series of Channel 4’s Big Brother starts tonight, which seems to drag on longer and longer every year. The controversial programme sees yet another twist on previous years, with the contestants sleeping on the floor and having icy showers. The would be contestants (eight men and eight women), won’t be fully fledged housemates until they individually complete a set of tasks.

Lucozade Energy will become the first major grocery sponsor of the Channel 4 programme, as part of it’s £12 million pound marketing campaign. Last year, the show was sponsored by Virgin Mobile and previously Carphone Warehouse’s Talk Talk brand.

The first Big Brother broadcast was in the Netherlands back in 1999 on their Veronica TV channel. It has been a prime-time hit in almost 70 countries. All 16 people entering this years house have been in hiding for the past few weeks, but will be seen tonight at 9pm

The Iconic Red Nose

The Comic Relief single ‘Islands in the Stream’, performed by the Gavin and Stacey comedy duo Rob Brydon and Ruth Jones, has reached pole position in the UK singles chart. The popularity of the single adds to the £5.5m raised by Comic Relief singles from the past two decades.

Comic relief is the king of promotional products, with their distinctive promotional merchandise being spotted on car bonnets and noses everywhere. As much as admire the promotional output of the charity, we would recommend that promotional noses would work as well for everyone.

It seems being ‘funny for money’ is as popular as ever, as they have raised an impressive £59,187,065 this year, with still a little more cash to head their way. We like to have as much fun as the next man here at the promotional products blog. Sometimes when where feeling really excited, we may even wear the odd novelty tie.

Last night I saw the multi Bafta winning ‘Curious Case of Benjamin Button’.  This eye opening film is based on a short story by F. Scott Fitzgerald and is about a man who is born in his eighties and ages backward. Despite the Sunday Times only giving this an underwhelming two stars, it has been nominated for a whopping 13 Oscars.

The leading lady (Kate Blanchett), finally realises her true feelings for Benjamin after years of messing about. What women wouldn’t feel anxious about ageing, while the handsome Brad Pitt becomes more youthful every day? What Kate would have appreciated is some quality promotional beauty products as a corporate gift. A personalised vanity mirror for example, would make a stylish promotional item that any lady could keep with her at all times!

A really cost effective promotional item is lip balm, which can be imprinted with your logo and easily distributed to potential clients. Giftselection has a great range of imprinted manicure & grooming sets, and personalised recovery packs which will appeal to both men and women.

BAFTA Winner

For those of you who missed the BAFTA’s last night, the new king of The British Academy of Film & Television Arts is Slum Dog Millionaire. The rags-to-riches story, hogged the stage last night at the Royal Opera House, winning seven out of eleven nominated awards.

Interestingly last year, BAFTA was the only precursor to correctly predict all of the acting winners at the Oscars, so it looks like this could be a vintage year for British cinema.

If all the glitz from Covent Garden last night, has got you in the mood for some glamour for your own business, then one could invest in some quality promotional awards and trophies.

Gift Selection has a great selection of promotional awards, trophies and presentation bowls. These eye catching corporate gifts are available in both glass and lead crystal, and can be either engraved or printed. I don’t think BAFTA style masks are available, but a great range of personalised awards are such as globe, iceberg and triangular style awards are.

The BBC is all set to launch a range of ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ promotional merchandise through the corporation’s commercial branch – ‘BBC Worldwide’

The promotional products available will include nightwear, glitter balls and iPod covers. We will have to wait until autumn to get our greasy mit’s on these promotional items, however the opening array of items is just a taster of what will eventually be on offer. Leading up to Christmas we will see the opportunity for us to buy Strictly jewellery, purses and children’s clothing for example.

Of course this isn’t the first time the BBC has got in on the act of promotional items; they currently do a roaring trade with shows such as Doctor Who and Top Gear proving especially popular.

With the previous blog entries being on the gloomy side, I felt it was time for a something a little more light hearted.

Little Britain USA is to return for a second series, casting a shadow of the claims that the American audience where too offended, or that they simply didn’t understand the humour.

Despite the US having stricter rules about what is allowed to be on TV, David Walliams said they didn’t tone down any scenes. The comedy duo said the American network were very happy about there first series, despite having; “some of our most outrageous things in it.”

To celebrate our British boys flying the comedy flag for us across the pond, why not have a Little Britain/ Americana themed party? When it comes to promotional gift companies, then I want that one… www.giftselection.com

To get everyone in the mood for a party, slap a personalised Spiro cap on their head, shove a promotional party whistle in their mouth, and pour them a drink into a custom printed American style tumbler.

Ye but no but, but obviously a party, wouldn’t be a party without some decorations. I’ve noticed that the website also has some excellent printed foil balloons. For the only gay in the village, there are corporate latex balloons… but you’ll have to provide your own shorts. To really get your place kitted out, then their printed roller banners and  corporate ad flags are just the thing.

If your order with www.giftselection.com, then the computer would defiantly say yes.
